    I am originally from Ohio but have lived here since 1995. Shortly after moving to Oklahoma I attended the Celebration of the Book in Tulsa where Alice Walker was a guest speaker. It was from Ms. Walker I heard about the details of this devasting story. After that I read more about it.

    I don’t remember learning about it until I was an adult, unfortunately. If it was mentioned, it was in high school and not covered in depth.
