He’s raced MG’s and Mini Coopers, played gigs with the likes of J.J. Cale and Eric Clapton (among dozens of other big names), and periodically ran for office. At seventy three, Rocky Frisco shows us that it’s not just youth that brings energy to Tulsa.
I first met Frisco while he was running for City Councilor in 2009. He needed mug shots done for local publications covering the race, and my roommate at the time was a good friend of his and recommended me for the job. This particular portrait came when we both tired of going through the motions of smiles, serious-looking poses, and headshots. Frisco made some of his teeth disappear, grimaced ferociously, and became one of my favorite candidates to shoot that season.
True Tulsa is a weekly project that highlights the people and places that make our city great. Find out how you can get involved in This Land Press.

rocky, while still a teenager drove his bike to interview US Army Private Elvis Presley, the ride was from Tulsa to an Armybase in Killeen Texas, he would stop and call in to the local tulsa station everyday and report on how his travels were going…id like to hear him tell the whole story to me again.
