I’m not ashamed to say that I (still) get a lump in my throat when I’m returning home to Tulsa and see our beautiful downtown skyline. No matter which direction I’m coming from it never fails to get to me. I heart Tulsa so much.

As the aircraft descended through clouds the first time I came to Tulsa, the ground below had huge areas covered with brown water. It looked like rice paddies. Major storms caused extensive flooding, and I was seeing the aftermath from above. I wondered if relocating to Tulsa was a good idea.

That was more than 20 years ago. I never intended to put down roots here, but we bought a house. Children arrived. Now we’re firmly planted and I can’t imagine going anywhere else. It’s life.
