This Land

Filmmaker Sterlin Harjo knows how difficult it is to stay busy between projects. Making art house films like the Oklahoma-centric Four Sheets to the Wind and Barking Water means taking a lot of time to tell one story. This is one of the reasons Holdenville-born Harjo loves working at This Land, where multiple projects relevant to his home state constantly demand his attention. Though the film festival circuit has given him job offers in cities more prominent than Tulsa, he believes there’s a lot of creative work to be done here. Not content to be one of the many great artists who left Oklahoma, Harjo is dedicated to proving inspiration isn’t far from home. At This Land, he highlights the stories that inspire him. Harjo believes his filmmaking will improve with every project he undertakes, and he insists he has no trouble finding them.
