This Land is a large-format, Oklahoma-centric monthly paper first published in May 2010. Our publication explores the cultural landscape of Oklahoma: past, present, and future. We primarily seek nonfiction stories and other works that probe different facets of Oklahoma life-stories and artwork that foster both enthusiasm and concern. We do not accept unsolicited fiction. Please note that we do not cover events, nor do we publish reviews. We recommend reading our publication prior to submitting your idea. Submissions by our subscribers tend to get preferential consideration.
Article Submissions Procedure
To pitch an article idea, fill out the form below describing in 1-3 paragraphs your subject matter. Please include any links to previously published writing. If you've already written an article, you can attach it using the form.
Proposals are submitted on a speculative basis. If your pitch is accepted by This Land, we will issue you a contract for services offered. It will be our discretion whether to use your submission for print, web, or both.
Video Submission Procedure
This Land is accepting video submissions for short-form documentaries that broaden our understanding of Oklahoma. We are looking to tell the untold stories of this state in exciting and unexpected ways. If you've created a story on video that you think needs to be seen and heard please send us a link, but keep in mind that we won't publish anything that has been previously released--only original content. One to five minutes is ideal for most submissions. If you're worried about privacy, Vimeo allows users to send password protected links. We find this useful.
Acceptance to This Land is based upon uniqueness of subject matter, technical soundness and availability of all legal rights to materials contained within (e.g. music). We love HD and prefer that format wherever possible, but a great story can be told at any resolution. Clear audio is a must, though! While we do pay for submissions, pay rate is based on experience, technical expertise, and overall quality.
Good luck and please join us in creating a community that turns a thoughtful lens to those whose stories must be told.
Audio Submission Procedure
This Land is accepting submissions for short audio documentaries that challenge and enrich our understanding of Oklahoma and her people. If you have produced an audio segment that you think needs to be heard, send us an mp3 file or link to your audio hosting platform of choice.
Some guidelines to follow:
2-4 minutes in length is ideal.
Only original content - we won't publish previously released work.
Clear audio is a must!

Poem Submission Procedure
In its print edition, THIS LAND is pleased to feature Oklahoma-related poems of various kinds. Our word- or line-limit is pretty flexible, but note that we rarely run poems exceeding one or two type-written pages. Also, please send us no more than four poems in a single submission.
Poems should be submitted using either the form at right, or via email to Scott Gregory, our poetry editor, at email@example.com. Be sure to include "POETRY SUBMISSION" in the subject line if you choose email. A brief "bio" (including previous publication credits, recently received grants or awards, and the like) should also be included. If possible, please attach the poem(s) to your email in a Word Document (that is, in a ".doc" file).
We probably aren't able to acknowledge the receipt of each and every poem submitted, but we'll try to do so. Poets whose works have been chosen for publication will be notified by email (and such works, in turn, might be subjected to editing). Payments for poems vary; payments for all poems accepted by THIS LAND will be made upon publication of those poems.
- Most stories we publish go through multiple rounds of editing and fact-checking. Writers are expected to work with the editors on revisions, for as many rounds as the editors see fit.

- All works submitted to This Land Press must be the sole, original property of the contributor(s), and cannot interfere with any other publication or company's publishing rights.
- In most cases, we pay a maximum of $250 per article, with the majority of articles falling in the $50-$150 range.
