It isn’t Fall in Oklahoma until the Tulsa State Fair comes to town. Ranked #21 on Carnival Warehouse’s “Top 50 Fairs” list in 2009 for it’s attendance of 835,000 fairgoers, the century-old fair is one of my favorite personal projects. Highlights included a 650 pound sculpture of the Golden Driller, the addition of the cheese-donut burger to the list of inevitable heart attack meals, and a thrilling new rollercoaster named “Comet II”.
See also this week’s edition of True Tulsa for a companion piece including an account of the fair through the eyes of a three year-old first-timer.
